Volunteers

There are several ways you can volunteer at the homeless walk and throughout the year.



Volunteer at the Help the Homeless Walk & 5K!  The race wouldn't be possible without the help of our dedicated volunteers!  Many positions available even if you are racing!

Pre-Event Opportunities

Walk & 5K Brochure Distribution Help distribute brochures during local events (race organizers will contact you regarding targeted events). You'll need to be available eight weeks before the event on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Packet Pick Up Assistance at RunOn! Stores Tuesday, November 8th - Thursday, November 10th at all RunOn! locations.

Assist with registering runners and handing out run packets to those who have pre-registered.

Event Day Opportunities

Site Set Up (12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.)

Volunteers will assist in the setup preparations for the 5K Run.

 

Course Coning (2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.)

Volunteers will place traffic cones throughout the route and pick up cones after last runner/walker passes last cone. Volunteers must be strong and healthy; able to lift and place traffic cones along route.

 

Packet Pick-up and T-shirts (1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.)

Volunteers will distribute race packets to all registered runners and assist with day of event registration.

 

Direction Monitors (2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.)

Volunteers will be placed at strategic points throughout the route to assure that runners/walkers remain on the correct course and cheer them along!

 

Refreshments (2:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.)

Volunteers will assist in the distribution of refreshments (at Run site and one water station on the route).

 

Stagehands (1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.)

Volunteers will assist stage events and entertainers.

 

Hospitality (1:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.)

Volunteers will greet walk and 5K run attendees. Serve as crowd direction helpers.

 

Site Clean-up (4:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.)

Volunteers will assist in keeping site organized during the event then help break down the site after the event has ended.

 

Volunteer training will be conducted the day of the activity or at the event. Information on parking for volunteers will be distributed at a later date. Volunteer at The Bridge! Throughout the year, The Bridge has several types of volunteer opportunities available including:

 

• Computer Lab

• Library

• Directed care management

• Welcome Building – Front Desk

• Services Building – Reception Desk (2nd floor)

• Barbershop

• Kennel

Helpful Hints
for Happy Volunteers

  • Please wear comfortable shoes, sun visor or hat.

  • Bring sunglasses and sunscreen.

  • Leave purse and valuables at home (there is no storage area).

Reminders

  • Please be on time! For example, if your shift begins at 8:30am, please arrive at volunteer check-in at 8:25am.

  • For each shift, volunteers will be provided a bottle of water.

  • We ask that you do not leave your post unattended and that you stay until the next volunteer shift arrives.

  • Please ensure another volunteer is available if you need a break to go to the restroom.

The Help the Homeless Walk & 5K serves as the public kick-off of Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance’s Help the Homeless Week, November 11th – 17th. The week includes several events and activities to raise awareness and financial support for The Bridge and concludes with a breakfast on November 17th at Dallas’ new Omni Convention Center Hotel.
